Nike Sues Bape Over Copyright Infringement
Nike has filed a formal complaint in New York against Bape for copying their designs of the Nike Dunk, Air Force 1, and Air Jordan 1. Many are surprised this lawsuit did not come many years ago because of the striking similarity between the designs of both shoe brands. Many publications are reporting this week that in 2009 Nike offered Bape a licensing agreement for the Bape Sta. Brendan Dunne of Complex News said “There has long been speculation that Bape eluded litigation from Nike for so many years because there was an agreement between the two, and the email’s reference to a potential licensing deal is the first real indication that Nike at one point considered such an arrangement.”
Jay-Z Receives $750 Million Dollars From Bacardi
Jay Z just got a bag from Bacardi. The liquor manufacturer bought a majority of his stake in D’Ussé, the super-premium cognac brand he developed with the alcoholic beverage maker. Both parties were involved in a legal battle and found this to be the best solution for both parties. Jay-Z also retains a substantial stake in the company and will like continue to use his cultural influence to further the brand.
